using smileys at work

I clearly remember like it happened a few seconds ago: one of my senior colleagues getting a glimpse of an email that I was just about to send and calling it “unprofessional” because it had one of these in it: 🙂. That was about 4 years ago.

And as I thought back then, I still think like this now: I won’t give up who I am at my core, I won’t give up my true colours for the sake of any job in this world, I am going to leave a little piece of my soul, of me, if not what is the point of my existence, if I am only supposed to copy a standard boring template of what am I supposed to do. It makes me sick to think I cannot involve my creativity in whatever I am doing at any point of time. No job is worth giving me up. And I am not referring to my ego, I can compromise if that is the case, I am being careful – I am not sending 🙂 ☺️ 😊 😀 🙂 left and right, but you know what I am talking about: that essence of who you really are, I think everyone can feel it if they really pay attention.

Never, after all the 🙂🙂🙂🙂 I sent, nobody said this was something negative, actually just like I thought, people became more themselves and the collaboration went smoother.

Anyway, today I did something I always wanted to do in my emails, but that “unprofessional” remark made me think twice and gave up on following along with what I actually wanted to do.

But today was the day when I said: let’s do it, and just out of curiosity see what happens.

Well, this is what I sent:

The reply:

I didn’t know “most welcome” existed. 😅

Anyway, after all these years, I had the courage to add a bigger chunk of who I am, in an email and the reply was even more positive than expected.

What I learned from this experience:

and let them shine their true colors
I don’t take coffee, I take tea, my dear
I like my toast done on one side
And you can hear it in my accent when I talk
I’m an Englishman in New York
See me walking down Fifth Avenue
A walking cane here at my side
I take it everywhere I walk
I’m an Englishman in New York
Oh, I’m an alien, I’m a legal alien
I’m an Englishman in New York
Oh, I’m an alien, I’m a legal alien
I’m an Englishman in New York
If “manners maketh man” as someone said
He’s the hero of the day
It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile
Be yourself no matter what they say
Oh, I’m an alien, I’m a legal alien
I’m an Englishman in New York
Oh, I’m an alien, I’m a legal alien
I’m an Englishman in New York
Modesty, propriety can lead to notoriety
You could end up as the only one
Gentleness, sobriety are rare in this society
At night a candle’s brighter than the sun
Takes more than combat gear to make a man
Takes more than a license for a gun
Confront your enemies, avoid them when you can
A gentleman will walk but never run
If “manners maketh man” as someone said
He’s the hero of the day
It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile
Be yourself no matter what they say
Be yourself no matter what they say
Be yourself no matter what they say
Be yourself no matter what they say (oh, I’m an alien, I’m a legal alien)
Be yourself no matter what they say (I’m an Englishman in New York)
Be yourself no matter what they say (oh, I’m an alien, I’m a legal alien)
Be yourself no matter what they say (I’m an Englishman in New York)
Be yourself no matter what they say (oh, I’m an alien, I’m a legal alien)
Be yourself no matter what they say (I’m an Englishman in New York)
Be yourself no matter what they say (oh, I’m an alien, I’m a legal alien)
Be yourself no matter what they say (I’m an Englishman in New York)
Be yourself no matter what they say

Speaking about true colors:

You with the sad eyes
Don’t be discouraged, oh I realize
It’s hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
The darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
Show me a smile then
Don’t be unhappy
Can’t remember when
I last saw you laughing
This world makes you crazy
And you’ve taken all you can bear
Just call me up
‘Cause I will always be there
And I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
I see your true colors
Shining through (true colors)
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful (they’re beautiful)
Like a rainbow
Oh oh oh oh oh like a rainbow
Ooh can’t remember when
I last saw you laughing
Ooh oh oh oh
This world makes you crazy
And you’ve taken all you can bear
Just call me up
‘Cause I will always be there
And I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid (don’t be afraid)
To let them show your true colors
True colors are beautiful (you’re beautiful, oh)
Like a rainbow
Oh oh oh oh oh like a rainbow
Mmm mmm

In the same time, it did me some good because now I filter what I am about to write a little bit more.

By the way, I just did it again – let’s just see, will someone say it is not ok? Bring it on!

Ok, I had to say thank you since I received the below, and what better way to say thank you than using my new wallpaper creator skills :))

By the way, for a loooong time, I was so, so, so sure the correct word to use was “beLLow“, instead of “below”. I was in shock when I found out there is a huge difference:

70% of my emails contain this “bellow” when referring to a previous text. :((

So, yes, I could be wrong.

But then again
